10 Sene, emitted for the first time in 1991. Malietoa Tanumafili II (January 4, 1913 - May 11, 2007), is the samoan Head of State (O Ao O Malo) since 1962. On the avers there are leafs of TARO (sometimes loosely called elephant ears , leaf of will patra or kalo). These broad leafs (approximately 45 by 60 cm) are in the shape of heart. In its raw form the plant is toxic (due to the presence of calcium oxalate). Although the toxin is destroyed by cooking (boil in water). Taro are used like containers or accompaniment.
